Obituary of Walter N. Edgehill

Walter “Wally” Edgehill, 65 passed away on Saturday, February 15th after a short illness. Wally was born in Cambridge on June 23, 1959 to the late Walter J. Edgehill and the late Joan (Sheehey) Edgehill. Grandson to the late Edna May (Powers) Edgehill and nephew to the late Norman Edgehill and his wife Marcia (Gomes) of Brighton, MA. He was the brother of Joanne (Edgehill) DiJanni and her husband Joe of Homeland, GA, Shawn Edgehill, Ronald Edgehill both of Somerville, MA and James Edgehill and his wife Lynne (DiGiorgio) of Franklin, MA. Loving uncle to James Stasio and his wife Marta (Grigoryan) of Danvers, Jennifer (Stasio) Green of Missouri, TX, Jessica Stasio of Danvers, Ronald Edgehill, Jr. of Somerville, Melissa (Edgehill) Veliz of Somerville, Vanessa Edgehill of Franklin and Christopher Edgehill of Franklin, Great uncle to Arianna Silveira, Abigail Stasio, Lexi Green, Jacob Stasio and Rocky Veliz, Jr. Growing up in Cambridge on Bay Street he attended the King school. Born with Cerebral Palsy and with mobility limitations it did not keep him off the basketball court, He could keep up with his brothers and neighborhood kids in a game of HORSE or 21. In his younger years, his faithful dog Bruno would follow him to the court and sit and watch him play for hours at a time. He looked forward to the weekends as this is when the family gathered. Saturday’s were for watching old westerns with dad (if there were no games on) and visits from the nieces and nephews. He would play cards, color or watch movies with them. His laugh was contagious and he brought joy to everyone around him. Sunday dinner and watching the games on TV, whether it be football, basketball or baseball, was the highlight of his week. Visiting hours will be held in the Burns Funeral Home, 305 Broadway, Cambridge, on Thursday, February 20, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM. Relatives and friends inivted. Followed by a funeral mass in St. Mary's Church, 134 Norfolk St., Cambridge at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Wally’s name to the Cerebral Palsy Foundation or the American Cancer Society.
