Obituary of Eileen D. Locke

Ms. Eileen M. (Dewire) Locke died peacefully April 2, 2025, a resident of New Horizons at Choate in Woburn, formerly of Billerica, Concord, and Cambridge. Eileen was the beloved daughter of the late Marie C. (Sheerin) & William H. Dewire.

Eileen was raised in Cambridge where she graduated from Cambridge Rindge & Latin School in 1945. She continued her education studying Chemistry at Regis College, Class of 1949, after which she earned a Master’s degree in Education from Boston College. Eileen taught multiple grade levels in the Somerville public school system over her 40-year career. She enjoyed traveling and it was on one of her many cruises that she met her future husband, Douglas A. Locke. They delighted in a brief marriage until his untimely passing in 1973. After her retirement from teaching in 1989, Eileen escaped the New England winters to Florida, where she owned a condo in Naples for nearly 25 years. She was a faithful Red Sox fan, a proud and active alumna of her alma maters, an avid beachgoer, and a socialite among her many friends and family.

Eileen was the beloved wife of the late Douglas A. Locke. Sister of the late John A. Dewire, Edward F. Dewire, and Mary C. Lyons. Cherished aunt to Joseph Lyons and his wife Patricia, Barry Lyons, Jeanne Dewire and her partner Richard James, and Edward Dewire and his wife Carrie. Also survived by a grandniece, Julie Lyons, and grandnephews Joseph, Sean, Connor, and Griffin Lyons. A devoted friend to many.

Funeral from the Burns Funeral Home, 354 Boston Rd., (Rt. 3A), Billerica, Tuesday, April 8 at 9 AM. Followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Matthew the Evangelist Parish in St. Theresa’s Church, 466 Boston Rd., Billerica at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Services will conclude with burial at St. Bernard’s Cemetery in Concord.
