Obituary of Maria A. Sutherland

Maria A. Sutherland, 92, of Billerica, MA passed to join her devoted husband, Lee William Sutherland, on May 9, 2025.
Born March 8, 1933, in Nashua, NH, she was the daughter of the late Phillip and Alexandra Anastos. Maria graduated from Nashua High School; she continued her education at Ricker College, NSCC, and Suffolk University. Maria’s career path changed when she met her husband, Lee William Sutherland.  They married on August 17, 1957, and had their first child the following year.  She remained on maternity leave for 20 years, enjoying every moment of motherhood, raising, caring, and loving her three children.  Maria then joined her father and eventually ran all aspects of the Phillip Anastos Travel Agency.
Eventually, Maria and Lee would travel around the country.   Visiting or traveling with relatives were the true points of interest.  Lee passed much too young in 2003.
Maria has spent the past 22 years enjoying her family.   Children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, siblings, nieces and nephews would all call and visit on a regular basis.  The joy and laughter seemed to be appreciated by all.
Maria was predeceased by her parents, husband Lee, granddaughter Christine, and great nephew, George. Maria is survived by her children, Bill and Eileen (O’Malley) Sutherland of New Castle, NH, Philip and Anne (Lang) Sutherland of Andover, MA, and Sandra (Sutherland) and Habib Rahman of Weston, MA. She was also constantly surrounded by her grandchildren, Lindsay (Sutherland) and Jonathan Konjoian, Jacob, Cameron, Austin and Holly (Mawn), Camden, Alexandra (Rahman) and Rob Scherf, Fredrick, William, Leanne Sutherland, Maggie (Sutherland) and Owen May, Meredith Rahman and Jonathan Kustina, and Bryan Sutherland as well as her great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.  Her intense love and quirky sense of humor will be truly missed. Visitation at Saints Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 71 Chandler Rd., Andover, MA., 01810, will be held Thursday, May 15, at 9:00 AM, followed by a service at 10:00 AM.  Relatives and friends invited.
