Obituary of Irene E Lander
Irene E. (Trueman) Lander, age 90 of Billerica, Massachusetts, passed away surrounded by loved ones on July 7, 2025. She was born on July 2, 1935, and spent her youth in Everett before settling in Billerica with her husband, Gordon, where they created a loving home for over 60 years.
Irene enjoyed spending time with her many friends. A bingo enthusiast, she had many hours of fun playing and volunteering at the Billerica Elks, Tewksbury’s St. Williams Church, and Billerica Senior Center. Some of her favorite memories to share were of her trips to Las Vegas with friends Carole and Patty, as well adventures to local casinos with her close friend Jean.
Irene was an avid traveler visiting friends and family coast-to-coast with special stops in Great Falls, Montana; Bradenton, Florida, and Nevada, especially Las Vegas. In quieter times, Irene found joy in watching game shows, video chatting with her family and friends, reading romance novels, playing the lottery, scratching scratch tickets, and singing and dancing in her family room to her favorite music.
Wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, friend. She was all these things and so much more. She will be missed dearly.
Irene is survived by her children, Catherine Barbas and husband Steve, Gordon Lander Jr. and wife Patricia, all of Billerica; her grandchildren, Nicholas Barbas of Billerica; Caitlin Barbas and husband Alex Silva of Baltimore, MD; Jason Dumont and wife Natalie of Boston; great-grandson Max Dumont; brother-in-law Harold C. Lander of North Reading; sister-in-law Mary Lander of Billerica; sister-in-law Margie Trueman of Bradenton, FL; life-long friend Jean Flight of Wilmington; and many nieces and nephews including those in Montana, Florida and Canada.
She is preceded by the love of her life, her loving husband Gordon Lander; father, George Trueman; mother, Catherine O’Brien Trueman; sister, Helen “Tootsie” Saksa; brother, Freddie Trueman; sister, Ann Trueman; grandson, Scott Dumont; brother-in-law, Harvey Lander; sisters- in-law, Maude Lander-Churchill, Carol Lander; and in-laws, Isaac and Violet Lander.
Irene had a passion for giving. Contributions to any charity in her memory are appreciated. Her most recent donation focus was St. Jude Research Hospital at www.stjude.org. Services will be private at the request of the family.
