Obituary of Mary T. Barchard
Mary (D’Antonio) Barchard, 89, of Billerica (formerly of Somerville) died peacefully on Sunday, August 31, 2025 at Lahey Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Mary was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts on November 18, 1935 and was the daughter of the Late Antonio D’Antonio and Antonetta (Nunno) D’Antonio. She attended Somerville schools and lived there for most of her life until moving to Billerica. She worked as a waitress and bartender at Whelan’s and Willow’s in Somerville and finally at Sacco’s Grill in Watertown until her retirement.
Mary was a loving, strong, and independent woman who always put her family first. She had a quick wit and a kind heart. She enjoyed old time country music, especially Alan Jackson songs, crossword puzzles, word searches, and watching old t.v. shows. Mary was an avid lottery player who could help you find your own number to play based on a dream, a license plate, a birth weight, etc. When she “hit the number”, she always shared her winnings. Mary loved spending time with her family and friends. She especially enjoyed the holidays and her weekly Saturday shopping trips with her children. These trips often included stops at LaCasia’s Bakery for Italian bread and biscotti, The Dollar Tree, Market Basket, and Walmart, but always included Dunkin’s coffee before and lunch afterwards. Mary’s presence will be missed every day, but her memory will be honored and cherished forever by all who loved her.
She is survived by her loving children, Deborah Echeverria of Billerica, Bruce (Butch) Barchard and his wife Rene of Dracut, Steven Barchard and his wife Terry of Dracut, her grandchildren, Nancy Galeas and her fiancée Jose (Raulito) Cetina of Chelsea, Joseph Galeas and his wife Carolyn of Revere, Christopher Barchard and his wife Samantha of West Haven, CT, Megan McCarthy, and Salem Barchard of Dracut, her 9 great grandchildren, her brother Pasquale (Pat) D’Antonio and his wife Alma of Wilmington, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
She was pre-deceased by her parents and her sisters, Rosa (Rosie) DeLucia, Rocchina (Rocky) DiLeo, and Dorothea (Dottie) Pacheco.
