Obituary of Joel D. Bernstein
Joel D. Bernstein, passed on September 21, 2025 after a lengthy illness. He was born February 9, 1948 in Boston to the late Julius Bernstein, and Silvia (Levine) Bernstein. Joel graduated from Bostin Latin High School in 1965 before attending Northeastern University in Boston from 1965 to 1970 and worked as a co-op for Spacetec Corp. in Bedford Ma before eventually working for Textron Systems as an electrical engineer for over 34 years. He also worked for Textron part time in retirement as a consultant for several years. He and his wife, Sandra lived in Woburn, Ma for 30 years before moving to the Cape after his retirement in Mashpee at Southport in an active adult community where he spent the last 13 year of his life.
Joel is survived by his wife Sandra Bernstein, son, David Bernstein, his wife Carrie and two grandchildren Micah and Noa. Brother Michael Bernstein and his wife Sandra Bernstein and their two daughters, Julie Treall and Robyn Bernstein of Quincy, a grandniece and two grand- nephews of Quincy. Joel is also survived by Diane Douglas (former wife).
Joel was well loved by everyone from family to old friends and new friends. His sense of humor often lit up the room with laughter along with his sarcastic wit, a genuine Bernstein trait well known to all who knew him. His smile radiated a sense of warmth and kindness, the essence of his soul. A kind and gentle spirit who loved life, good food, wine, and travel. On the Cape he had many good friends and loved his weekly poker games and going out to dinner with family and friends. His life was full of fun, laughter, love and adventures in travel. A good man who leaves behind a loving legacy and many cherished memories. He will live in our hearts forever; a man who simply enjoyed life and will be missed by everyone who knew him.Visitation will be held Thursday, September 25, from 4:00 - 7:00 PM., in the Burns Funeral Home, 354 Boston Rd., (Rt. 3A), Billerica. Relatives and friends invited. Interment, Friday, September 26, at 11:00 AM, North Cemetery, Billerica.
