Obituary of Mary A. Petty
Mary Petty, 94, of Billerica, MA has departed this vale of tears on November 9th 2025.
A Mass will be held on November 13th at 10:00 am at St. Theresa’s Roman Catholic Church followed by a service and burial at Fox Hill Cemetery in Billerica.
Mary was born in Mount Kisco, NY in April of 1931 to Louis and Margaret Cirillo. At the age of 6, they moved to Watertown, MA where she grew up, went to school, learned to play the cello and tended the family’s large garden. When Mary graduated from Watertown high school, she got a job at the Liberty Mutual Insurance Company. In 1956, she married Merton Alan Petty and together they had three sons. Following their divorce in 1965, Mary got a job as an Administrative Assistant and worked diligently at that career until she was 70 years old. She raised her sons by herself providing a roof over their heads, food on the table and love in a time when it was frowned upon to be divorced and women in the workplace were confined to menial jobs. During that time, she helped her children by being involved in their scouting activities and her community by being a Town Meeting Representative. For the last 20 years she has been retired and spent time working at the Billerica Senior Center. She loved her family, her home in Pinehurst and her German Shepherd dogs.
Mary is survived by her son Mark and his wife Wanda, her son David, her son Mitchell and his daughter Nicole and her husband Eddie and their son Grayson, and his son Alex and his wife Sarah and their children Jayden, A.J., Jocelyn and Gavin.
Memorial donations may be made to the Massachusetts Humane Society.
