Obituary: Jean H. (Roy) McLeod
Jean H. (Roy) McLeod, age 87, a longtime resident of Chelmsford and a woman known for her generosity and loving spirit, died peacefully on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at Sunny Acres Legacy Care in Chelmsford. She was the beloved wife of the late Roderick W. McLeod II.
Born in Dorchester, Massachusetts, on March 26, 1938, Jean was the daughter of the late George and Annie (Rafuse) Roy.
Jean's early professional life was marked by a thrilling foray into music. She began her career at John Hancock Insurance in the 1950s but is most notably remembered as a talented vocalist and a member of The Jamies, the singing group famous for their timeless 1958 hit, "Summertime, Summertime."
Following her singing career, Jean dedicated three decades to the financial world, working at Hanscom Federal Credit Union. She climbed the ranks through hard work and dedication, eventually retiring in the year 2000 as the Vice President of Lending.
Faith and community were central to Jean's life. She was a devoted and active member of the New Colony Baptist Church in Billerica since 1965, where she found immense spiritual fulfillment and friendship.
Above all, Jean will be remembered for her deep kindness and renowned generosity. She touched countless lives through her thoughtful actions and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her devoted son, David R. McLeod.
Funeral Services
Visiting Hours will be held in the Burns Funeral Home, 354 Boston Rd., (Rt. 3A), Billerica on Thursday, November 20, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
The Funeral Service will be held at the New Colony Baptist Church, 30 River St., Billerica, on Friday, November 21, 2025, at 10:00 AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited.
Interment will follow at Pine Ridge Cemetery, Chelmsford.
