Obituary of Robert I. Lyman

Robert Ingersoll Lyman (Bob-age 89) died peacefully after a short illness at Beth Israel Lahey Hospital on Sunday, February 22, 2026. He was born October 10, 1936 in New Haven, CT of Rachel Ingersoll Lyman and Albert Lyman. He was predeceased by his sister, Glendore McLaughlin. He graduated from Wilbraham Academy and attended Babson College. He served honorably in the U.S.A.F. from 1958 to 1962. He then worked for IBM and then Ceridian as a payroll specialist until 1996 when he retired. He was involved in the Billerica Friends of Music for many years and served as its president for several of those years. He is survived by the love of his life of 65 years, Marlene J. Lyman, daughter Susan L. Gareri, son-in-law Daniel B. Gareri, son Stephen R. Lyman, daughter-in-law Catherine M. Lyman both of Hudson, NH, and daughter Cheryl L. Simons and son-in-law William F. Simons of Bedford, MA. He is also survived by grandsons Shaun R. Lyman, Bradley J. Lyman, Brian D. Gareri, Cameron L. Simons and granddaughters Erika J. Gareri, Olivia C. Lyman, and Taylor L. Thomas, great grandchildren Selena, Mariah & Preston, and cousin Mary Alice Treworgy of Topsham, ME.

Visiting hours are from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Friday, February 27, at Burns Funeral Home, 354 Boston Road, (Rt. 3A), Billerica, MA with a private funeral at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 28.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bob’s name to Breakthrough T1D or Boston Children’s Hospital.
