Obituary of Raoul J. Auclair, Jr.

Obituary for Raoul J. Auclair, Jr. “Jack”

Raoul J. Auclair, Jr., affectionately known as “Jack,” passed away leaving behind a lifetime of stories, laughter, and love rooted deeply in family, hard work, and the outdoors.

Born and raised in Medford, Massachusetts, Jack was the son of Raoul and Lucille Auclair and one of three siblings, alongside Paula Mirasola and Robert Auclair. On June 13, 1959, he married the love of his life, Priscilla Dean Auclair, beginning a devoted partnership that would span decades and anchor a growing family.

Jack proudly served in the United States Navy, where he was stationed on icebreaker ships that traveled to both the North and South Poles. His time in the service contributed to important explorations and deepened his lifelong appreciation for nature and adventure.

After his military service, Jack brought his skills and determination to his work as a maintenance man, earning a reputation as someone who could fix or rebuild just about anything. A natural handyman, he was always ready to lend a hand, whether repairing a car, tackling a home project, or helping a friend in need. Visitors to his home knew him well for his constant motion—always “puttering,” with a motor in pieces or a new project underway.

An avid outdoorsman, Jack found great joy in fishing and hunting, often sharing tales of “the big one that got away” or the deer that “ran right past him.” He had a special talent for crafting his own fishing rods and tying flies.

Jack also had a deep affection for animals. Over the years, he cared for many beloved pets, including dogs, cats, and even horses. It was common to see him accompanied by one of his loyal four-legged companions.

He cherished many years spent in what he called his “Piece of Heaven” in the Northeast Kingdom in Vermont, where he embraced nature and built life-long friendships. His time there included a few memorable encounters with local wildlife—particularly bears—adding yet more stories to his rich collection.

Jack and Priscilla raised three children: Linda Auclair and her partner Gary Josephson; Jayne and Robert Stafstrom; and Mark Auclair and his partner Suzanne Warren. He was a proud grandfather to Alex (and his wife Samantha) Stafstrom, Kelsey (and her husband Wayne) Bainter, Rebecca Stafstrom, Carina Stafstrom, Jenna Purvis, Zachary and Matthew Warren. He was also blessed with six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, extended family, and dear friends.

Jack will be remembered for his sense of humor, his love of coffee and donuts, true craftsmanship and his gift for storytelling.

Jack’s stories may have ended, but the laughter and love he shared will endure for generations.

Visiting hours  and Service will be held in the Burns Funeral Home, 354 Boston Rd., (Rt. 3A), Billerica, Friday, April 24, from 4:00 - 7:00 pm. Relatives and friends invited. Service will be held Saturday, April 25, at 10:00 AM.
