Obituary of Andrew J. Bowen Jr.

Andrew J Bowen Jr, age 92, a Billerica resident of 63 years, died on August 3rd. Andy was the beloved husband of the late Patricia Bowen with whom he shared 48 years of marriage before her passing in 2009. Born on November 28, 1933 in Boston, Andrew was the beloved son of the late Andrew J. Bowen Sr. And Olga Miskevich. He graduated from Boston Technical High School and earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Northeastern University. After graduation, he enrolled in the Army and worked as a radar and computer technician. Andy was a retired engineer from MIT Lincoln Laboratory, where he worked for 42 years.

Andrew was highly involved in the Billerica community. He was a Town Meeting Member for 11 years and was also Cemetery Commissioner. He was an active member of the First Parish Church, Billerica Historical Society, and Middlesex Canal Museum. Andy was a Master Gardener graduating from the Massachusetts Horticultural Society program. His yard was his own garden center. He immensely enjoyed traveling and outings with family and friends. Above all, he loved doting on his two granddaughters, a constant presence at their roller skating, dance, band and color guard performances.

He is survived by his loving son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Debbie; his precious granddaughters, Jessica and Kaitlyn; his partner Susan Glennon; three sisters: Marsha O’Donoghue; Janet Whipple and Carol Miskevich. Andrew was also the brother of the late Jean Metz and Sandra Boehnke. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews; grandnieces and grandnephews and dear friends.

Graveside service will military honors be held Tuesday, August 11, in Fox Hill Cemetery, 130 Andover Rd., Billerica at 11:00 AM. Relatives and friends invited.
