Obituary of Edward D. Garner

Edward Derwent Garner born Sept 30, 1946 left this life for the Eternal House July 31, 2019.  Beloved husband of Barbara Carlson Garner for 49 years, Devoted Father to Renee Garner Giordano, Andrew Garner and his wife Danielle Doherty Garner, Amanda Garner and her fiance Peter Hachey.   Proud Grandfather to Anthony C. Giordano IV  whom he loved to watch play soccer & hockey and Owen Edward Garner who loved playing with his Grampy's cane while just learning to stand and walk around.  Brother to Robin Garner Estes and her husband Rev Shane D. Estes of Grinnell, IA. Uncle to several nieces and nephews in Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois & New York.  Son of the late Robert F. Garner and Grace Nesbitt Garner of Melrose, MA

Former resident of Billerica, MA for 36 years, Ed was born in Concord, NH and grew up in Melrose, MA.  He was a graduate of Melrose High School and Suffolk University.  Edward served in the US Army until his was honorably discharged in 1969.  He was also a proud 51 year member of the Massachusetts Freemason Society and made a wonderful life for his family as an Accountant for 40 years.  

Ed had been enjoying a relaxing retirement, taking road trips with Barbara, discovering new restaurants and weekly family dinners with his children & grandchildren.  He had a relentless work ethic which he taught to his children.  He had 3 mottos:  .....if you do the jobs no one else wants to do you will always be employed, .....failure is ok, as long as you learn from it and don't make the same mistake twice ......try your hardest to get where you're going and if it doesn't work try another way but don't stop trying!
