Obituary of Phyllis Marjorie Witkus
Phyllis Marjorie (Green) Witkus
On Monday, April 13, 2020, at the age of 84, Phyllis Witkus, loving
wife of the late Adolph P. Witkus, Sr., passed away from complications due to COVID-19.
She is survived by 11 children and 3 siblings.
As shown by the multitude of immediate family names to follow, when the Green/ Witkus family was formed, it truly was a “Brady Bunch” family on steroids with far reaching tentacles. There are few things she loved more than spending time with family and friends. To so many even unrelated friends, she was aunty, mom, nanny or Bootha. If she knew you, you were adopted into her family. Another love that came close to her family were her pets; there was rarely a time in her life that there was not a pet of some sort in her home. Beside her usual cats, dogs, guinea pigs, hamsters and any passing stray animal, the unusual such as seagulls, horn-toads, Praying Mantis Sammy and a gift from her daughter, Madagascar hissing roaches called her house their home as well. Her other love was Manomet Beach in Plymouth. Some, if not most of the entire family’s favorite memories were made in Manomet, the one place that could fit our entire brood. We vacationed there as a family monopolizing most of the 11 cottages from the late sixties until they were torn down a handful of years ago. Truly moms happy place. She was a tiny thing barely clearing 5’ or 100 pounds.…but if you hurt someone she loved, her size didn’t stop her from getting fiercely protective. She was truly beautiful in her youth, loved dressing up for a party, loved a good time and hosted many wonderful parties. She may or may not have been the instigator of many a food fight…and they were epic! As anyone knows, mom was a tomboy at heart and would prefer to change the oil in a car to washing a floor. She did not like flowers but loved a lilac bush or pussy willows. As brought out, her loves were family, friends, animals and the beach so in lieu of flowers, you may make a donation in her name to the Lowell Humane Society, 951 Broadway St., Lowell, Ma 01854, lowellhumansociety.org (the website has a donate button)or IBIA (Indian Bluffs Improvement Association), P.O. Box 459 Manomet, MA 02345 or Paypal or checks.
