Obituary of Edward Dean Johnson, Jr.

Edward “Eddie” Dean Johnson, Jr. age 71, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2020 after a valiant battle with Covid-19 at Lahey Hospital in Burlington, MA. He was a lifelong Cambridge resident until the past few years when he resided at the VA Medical Center in Bedford, MA. He was the the beloved son of the late Edward and Mary (Delorie) Johnson and nephew of the late Dorothy Maxwell. He was the loving brother of Karen Johnson of Salem, NH, who was devoted and cared for him in his later years of life, Brenda Gilchrist and her husband, Dickie of Medford, MA, Sandy Quigley and her husband Tim of Hull, MA, Carla Maxwell of Somerville, MA, Cheryl Anselmo and her husband, Rick of Natick, MA, Brian Johnson and his wife Elizabeth of Shirley, MA, Cassandra Fiore and her husband Michael of Granby, CT and the late Robert Johnson, USMC. In 1968 Eddie enlisted in the Navy and served four tours in Vietnam; Eddie was stationed on the USS Long Beach, a nuclear powered missile cruiser. He was a recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was a former Commander of the VFW Post #299 in Central Square, Cambridge, MA. He spent countless hours listening to classic rock music such as the Moody Blues, Rolling Stones, The Beatles and in his younger years he loved to dance to Motown music and Otis Redding. He was so easy going and had a fabulous infectious smile that won over all that he met. He loved pizza and Karen always brought him all of his special treats and indulged his incredible “sweet tooth”. A Private Prayer Service will be held at the Cambridge Cemetery Veterans lot on Thursday, May 14, at 11:00 AM.
