When Bob and I were about 14, we painted a mural on his bedroom wall while wearing berets and listening to the Beatles' "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" album. Years later, I was at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital waiting for Bob to give me a ride home after I'd had had a medical procedure, and I thought about our fine art experiment. We were friends as teenagers and as ageing men, and for all the time in between. He was everything a person should be.
