Obituary of Robert J. Saunders
Robert J. Saunders, age 62, died Thursday, April 29, 2010 at Merrimack Valley Hospice in Haverhill following a year and a half battle with ALS. He was the beloved husband of the late Elaine (McKenna) Saunders. Born in Cambridge, July 2, 1947, he is survived by his mother Frances (Doran) Saunders of Billerica and the late James Saunders. Bob was a graduate of Billerica Memorial High School, class of 1965. He then went on to Middlesex Community College and finished his education at Babson College. He owned and operated Mall Liquors in Billerica Plaza and also Liquors Plaza in Lowell for 15 years. He later became a sales manager with Berman's Liquors in Lexington. Prior to his illness, for the last 17 years, he was a sales manager for Sprinkler House Systems Turf Products in Salem, NH. Mr. Saunders was also an avid golfer, former member of Mt. Pleasant Country Club, and, most recently, a member of the Billerica Country Club. He was also a member of the Billerica Chapter of knights of Columbus, #3963. He is survived by his two daughters and son-in-law, Marion Saunders and Kelliann and Todd Bazemore, all of Lowell, and his three sons, William Saunders and James Saunders, both of Lowell, and Robert Saunders, Jr., of Swampscott, his sisters, Marion Devlin of Bedford, Barbara Saunders of Nashua, and Laurie Johne of Palm Coast, FL, and his three brothers, James Saunders, Brad Saunders, and Peter Saunders, all of New Hampshire.
