Obituary of Dorothy I. Rogers

Dorothy Irene Rogers       1926-2021

Dorothy I (Darling) Rogers, 94 of Billerica, MA passed away peacefully on February 3, 2021 at Blair House of Tewksbury under hospice care.

Dorothy was born on May 5, 1926 in Worcester, MA, daughter of the late Wyman and Dorothy (Smith) Darling.  Dorothy was the beloved wife of the late James W Rogers.  She is survived by one daughter, Susan Cagnina of Shirley MA; grandson, Richard Cagnina and wife Tracy of Billerica; great granddaughters, Chloe and Juliana; niece and goddaughter, Dorothy Moloney of Lowell, MA; Nephew Richard Hamel and wife Lisa of Derry N.H.; Frederick Hamel and wife Eileen of Derry N.H. as well as many great nieces and nephews.

Dorothy attended Howe High School and Lowell High School graduating in 1944. After graduating she served in the cadet nurse corps during WWII in the State of Washington.  She was employed over the years as a supervisor at Raytheon and served as the cafeteria manager at the Hajjar Elementary School of Billerica, MA for 30 years.  After she retired in 1991, Dorothy volunteered for meals on wheels and the Billerica Senior Center when she was able.  Dorothy was also an active member of the New Colony Baptist Church in Billerica, MA.  She attended Bible study and holiday tea parties with her daughter, Susan.

Dorothy enjoyed attending many craft fairs with her husband James selling his stained glass, cheering for all Boston Sports teams, playing Bingo, and spending time with her daughter, grandson, and great grandchildren.

She was always willing to help others in times of need.

She is reunited in Heaven with her husband James, Sister Laura (Darling) Hamel and her husband Frederick, Sister Elizabeth (Whitney) Thurlow, Brother William Whitney and Niece Deborah (Hamel) Ramsden.

Dorothy’s family would like to greatly thank the staff of Blair house for the wonderful care provided to her over the last 6 years of her life as well as New England Hospice and Joanna’s therapy dog “Kong”.

The visitation will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at The New Colony Baptist Church, 30 River Street, Billerica, with the funeral service to follow at 11:00 AM. Due to Covid19 protocols family and close friends only.

 

Interment will be held at Fox Hill Cemetery, 130 Andover Road, Billerica, at 12:00 PM.  ALL ARE WELCOME to join the Family.  All attendees are required to wear face coverings and practice social distancing.
