Obituary of Joseph P. Callahan

Joseph P. Callahan, age 76, of Billerica, MA passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 30, 2021.  Beloved husband of Mary E. (Burke) Callahan.  Devoted father of Deborah Callahan and her husband, Sean, Susan Doherty and her husband, Paul, and Joseph P. Callahan, Jr., all of Woburn.  Brother of John Callahan and his wife, Mary of Plymouth and Daniel Callahan and his wife, Nancy of Thornton, NH.   Loving grandfather of Sean, Brian, Shayla, Patrick, Aiden, and Megan.  Son-in-law of John E. Burke and the late Susan F. Burke of Waltham.  Brother-in-law of John Burke and Rick Arnaud, Tom and Janice Burke, Susan Burke, Jayne Marzano, Michael Burke and Neil Gannon-Burke, Ted and Bonnie Burke, and David Burke.  Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Joe graduated from Milton High School, attended Northeastern University, and began his career at Automatic Data Processing where he remained for 45 years until retirement in 2009.  Joe also honorably served in the Army Reserves.

Joe was an avid skier frequently seen on the slopes of Cannon Mountain.  He loved reading and always had the latest book from his favorite authors.  He loved the beach and his home in Dennisport provided a relaxing getaway to enjoy the sun and sand.

Joe cared deeply for family and friends and was the most loyal gentleman.  He loved hosting cookouts and holidays for family and was especially thrilled to be in the company of his grandchildren and furry friend Frankenstein.  Grandpa was the title he coveted most.

Sadly, Joe lost his battle with cancer but was able to spend his final days in the love and comfort of his home surrounded by the family he loved.  He will be missed so much by so many.

Visiting hours will be held in the Burns Funeral Home, 354 Boston Rd., (Rt. 3A), Billerica, Saturday, April 3, from 10:00 to 12:00 noon. All attendees are required to wear face coverings and practice social distancing; we ask that visitors pay their respects and exit the funeral home promptly to allow other guests to enter. A private funeral service will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Joe’s name to Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center, https://giving.massgeneral.org/cancer/donate/
