Obituary of Rita Veronica Sousa

Sousa, Rita Veronica (Moran) left this life May 12, 2010 to start her new life with Jesus Christ and her family. She was 85 years old. Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts on April 22, 1925 to Malachi and Mary Moran, she was welcomed into the bosoms of her many brothers and sisters in this large Irish Catholic family. She was a faithful wife of the late John P. Sousa Sr., devoted mother of Jean Marie Brown of Cambridge, and the late John Jr. and Lawrence Sousa. Loving friend to many, including her childhood friends Barbara McGrail and Frances Tingle. Funeral from the John C. Burns & Sons Funeral Home, 305 Broadway, Cambridge, Monday, May 17 at 9:00 a.m. followed by a funeral mass in St. Marys Church, Cambridge, at 10:00 a.m. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours, Sunday, May 16 from 2:00-5:00 p.m. Memorials may be made in Ritas name to Chilton House Hospice, 65 Chilton St., Cambridge, MA 02138. Employed for many years at the old Cambridge City Hospital in the Admitting Office, where she performed her duties with grace and compassion. She was fondly known as Louie the Lockpicker for her skills at opening locked doors in the records room and doctors office when they forgot to bring their keys! Eventually she transferred to the City Traffic Dept as a Senior Clerk Typist. She assiduously typed traffic regulations, street closings, memos, and correspondence on her trusty IBM Selectric. She was a woman with a great sense of humor and made everyone laugh. She retired from public service after the death of her youngest son Lawrence in May of 1995, leaving a legacy of integrity, hard work, humor, and love. In many spheres of her life she always strove to do her best to make a difference with her life. She will be missed. Interment Mt. Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge.
