Kay was never one for letting me take her photo but she did let me take a few over the years. She had such a great smile and gave so much to her community. The world is a more beautiful place. My deepest sympathy to Jerry, her family and her many, many friends. Miss you already, Kay.

My heart goes out to everyone who loved Kay. She was a great lady. From all the time she spent making the grounds of First Parish Church and other places look beautiful with her flowers to all the hard work she did organizing the Billerica Farmers Market. I always enjoyed chatting with her when I saw her at community events.

For more than 30 years I had the blessing of having Kay Johnson as my workmate and friend. Kay had been one of our group secretaries when she and Jerry became a couple and decided to marry. I remember our group leader, Bill Lindley, asking me if Kay could train with me to learn layout design. It was a perfect match for her. It was also one of the best things to happen for our group. Her attention to detail and organization were essential in the meticulous work of crafting complex designs. Our designers quickly learned the benefit of having Kay work on their projects. Together we created CAD layouts for nearly 100 CCD designs supporting numerous programs for astronomy, space surveillance, high speed imaging, night vision, R&D and national defense.
Kay worked on the notable Space Based programs CHANDRA, an X-Ray Observatory, and TESS, the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite as well as the earth based PANSTARRS program whose primary mission is to detect Near Earth Objects which threaten to impact Earth . Many other research programs got the benefit of her efforts as well.
That is only the work side of things. Kay was always at the ready to pitch in do something just because it was the right thing to do. It is a pleasure to drive thru the Billerica Town center mostly because of the beautiful flowers planted there by Jerry, Kay and the Billerica Garden club. She always had an open mind and believed in sharing her good fortune with everyone. Donating her time and money for things like the Farmers Market and insuring less fortunate folks had access to goods at her market.
Having Kay as a friend had so many benefits beyond the wonderful scones, Irish bread and gingersnap cookies she would often bake and bring in to share, or the flowers she grew in her garden and brought to work to brighten our workspace. She was a good listener and provided sound perspective on any problem you might share. And plenty of laughs. She was a terrific friend. I shall miss her very much.

Kay was one of the nicest person I had worked with. She had a great artistic talent, which she applied to laying out complex circuits, and a warm smile. I will dearly miss her.
