Obituary of Marion E. Gagnon

Marion E. (Fowler) Gagnon passed peacefully on Wednesday, April 26, at home surrounded by her family.  Marion, born in 1948 was a long-time member of the North Billerica Baptist Church, where she sang soprano for many, many years in both the Junior and Senior choirs.  She met her future husband, David Gagnon, in the Church.  They had a nine-year courtship before marriage of almost 52 years.

Marion worked as an Assistant Buyer at Bon Marche in Lowell, MA, then had many years as a stay-at-home Mom. She later re-entered the work force, working for Early Intervention at Emerson Hospital in Concord, and later as a clerk, then Department Manager at K-Mart in Billerica before retiring in 2017.

Her leisure activities included reading (she always had a book in her hand), travel, enjoying ice cream, and serving the North Billerica Baptist Church, where her efforts for the frequent Church Lobster Luncheons made her known as the “Lobster Lady” to many.

Marion is survived by her husband David; two daughters, Jennifer Colbert of Chelmsford, and Amanda Gagnon of Billerica; a grandson, Elijah Colbert; a sister, Francis Smith of Farmington, NH and her family; and a brother Thomas Fowler of Billerica, his wife Diane, and their family.

Marion’s greatest joys were her family, her Church, her books, hippos, and ice cream.

Visitation will be held on Monday May 1, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Burns Funeral Home, 354 Boston Road (Rt 3A), Billerica.  A funeral service will be held Tuesday May 2, at 10:00 AM at the North Billerica Baptist Church, corner of Colson and Old Elm Streets in North Billerica, followed by interment at Fox Hill Cemetery, 130 Andover Road Billerica.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the North Billerica Baptist Church, to the American Cancer Society, or to Lowell General Hospital Cancer Center.
