Obituary of Harrison D. Snow

Harrison (Harry) D. Snow, age 92, passed away peacefully at his home in Billerica, MA on October 2, 2023.  He was born in Somerville, MA on September 23, 1931 to Hazel and Ernest Snow.  He was the youngest of four children.  His surviving sibling is Adrianna and his other siblings, Wilson and Emmeline predeceased him.  Harrison was predeceased by his wife Elaine and son Stephen. He leaves behind his adoring daughter Susan Miner, granddaughter Christine Schmal and great grandchildren Breena and Brendan Kelly.  He also leaves behind many beloved extended family members who will feel his absence with abundance.

He attended Somerville High School and graduated in 1949.  Directly after high school he enrolled in the Air Force.  He completed Basic Training, Aircraft Mechanic School, became an Airman First Class in 4750th Air Base Squadron and left the Air Force as a Staff Sargeant.  During his time in the Air Force, he served in the Korean war and received a Good Conduct Medal, Korean Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and United Nations Service Medal.  He had an honorable discharge in 1956.

After leaving the Air Force he met the love of his life Elaine and they married on October 4, 1958 in a small intimate wedding in Somerville.  They started their married life in Somerville and after a few years they adopted their first child Stephen and a couple of years later they adopted their daughter Susan. In 1970 they moved to Billerica where they raised their family and lived their remaining years. They remained married for over 50 years.

Harry joined the Shawmut Bank in Boston shortly after he was married.  He held several positions before he retired from The Shawmut Bank in late 1990s. After retiring he took golf lessons and joined the senior league at the Billerica Country Club where he enjoyed many years of golfing with friends.

Every waitress at his favorite restaurants in town knew him (and his appetite), some even joked he wiped his plate so clean he took the pattern off the plate.  His appetite remained healthy until the end.

Harry was modest with old fashioned values and always a true gentleman. He had lifelong friends that he maintained relationships with until he passed.  He always had a smile and a kind word to share.  He was an avid runner, he coached youth hockey, he played hockey well into his 50s and only stopped playing because the doctor and wife told he had to.  He was an avid sports watcher and followed all the teams and knew all the players.  He was a dedicated family man, spent holidays and vacations with the extended family.  He was the epitome of fun, he was known for being the first one on the dance floor if the YMCA was played or if the chicken dance broke out.  His had an amazing sense of humor and never took himself too seriously.

Visiting hours will be Friday October 6, 2023 from 4-7pm at Burns Funeral Home, 354 Boston Road, Billerica, MA. 01821. The Church Service will be Saturday October 7, 2023 at 10 am at the First Congregation Church in Billerica, 18 Andover Road, Billerica, MA 01821 (please go directly to the church).  Graveside service to follow immediately at Fox Hill Cemetery.
