Obituary of Frederick W. Spindler, III

Frederick William (Fred) Spindler III, of Billerica Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on Thursday January 4, 2024 after a long courageous battle with cancer at age 66. He was born on August 20, 1957, the oldest son of Joan (Neave) and Frederick William Spindler Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Martha Cassidy Spindler, whom he married on June 25, 1983 at Trinity Episcopal Church in Woburn, Massachusetts. Devoted father to Corey Cassidy Spindler, and his fiancée Kristy Buck of Dracut, MA. Loving brother to Edward Spindler and his wife Sharon also from Dracut, James Spindler of Beverly Hills, FL and sister, Lyn Farmer and her husband Melvin of Homosassa, FL. He also leaves behind uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and many beloved pets.
Fred graduated with the class of 1975 from Billerica High School and also from Andover Tractor Trailer School.
Fred met his future wife while working at D. C. Alton in Woburn, MA where he was employed as a route salesman. After obtaining his class 1 license he worked at J. E. Farmer as a dump truck driver, learned to operate heavy equipment and mechanics. He later worked for Harrington and Sons Paving until he took and passed the civil service test. He worked maintenance at many schools, finding his home at the Washington School, where he was loved by all. He retired from the City of Lowell on May 1, 2023.
Fred was an avid Boston sports fan, going to many Celtic games during the Larry Bird era. He coached with Martha for the Billerica Youth Basketball, with their son Corey playing.
He enjoyed many hobbies with deep sea and bass fishing at the top of his list. Fred looked forward to Saturday night game night with friends - darts in the warmer weather, and cribbage, cards, bolo, and board games in the colder seasons. He was an excellent cook and especially enjoyed roasts and prime rib with his special au jus recipe. He loved watching Food Network and Phantom Gourmet. Fred was all about the food, most people eat to live but he lived to eat!
