Obituary of Frances L. Doughty
Frances L. (O’Connell) Doughty, age 96, of Billerica, MA, passed away on February 14, 2024, peacefully, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Lowell, MA, October 15, 1927, Frances was the daughter of the late Edward F. And Lillian M. (Connolly) O’Connell of Somerville, MA. She was the loving wife of John H. Doughty, Sr. with whom she shared 47 years of marriage before Jack’s passing in 1996. Frances was a proud graduate of St.Benedict’s School of the Little Flower in Somerville and Somerville High School Class of 1945. Frances was a talented pianist. She played her first tune at the age of three and she gave many recitals at Jordan Hall in Boston, MA. Following high school, Frances was a homemaker but continued to take business classes (BU School of Business). Frances was a long time member of St Mary’s Church where she was a Homebound Minister and a member of St Mary’s Women’s Club. Frances enjoyed playing the piano, quilting, cooking, playing cards, and chatting over an always fresh pot of coffee and her homemade apple pies. She is survived by her two daughters, Susan Smith and her husband, Bill, of Biddeford, ME, and Noelle Chiasson and her husband, Steven, of Billerica. Frances was the mother of the late John Doughty, Jr., and Rev. Edward Doughty. Frances was the grandmother of Elizabeth (Smith) Cyr and her husband, Gabe, Adam Smith and his husband, Tom Scott, Sarah Doughty, John (Jay) Doughty and his wife, Bridget, Mollie (Doughty) Reynolds and her husband, Greg, Michaela Doughty-Grimes and her wife, Sarah, Emily (Chiasson) Doan and her husband, Jonathan, Samuel Chiasson, and Olivia Chiasson. She was the great- grandmother of Katelyn and Abigail Cyr, Cameron and Emma Calautti, Cora Doughty, and Reese Reynolds. Frances will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
