Joan R. Whiting passed away peacefully at D'Youville Senior Care. Aged 90, she was raised in Arlington, Massachusetts by her parents Torsten and Helen Reenstierna, she married William T. Whiting in 1957 - first eloping to New York, then celebrating publicly in Arlington. They made their homes in Lexington (34 years) and Chelmsford. Joan is survived by her brother Rick (wife Anne); sons William "Tom" (wife Linda) of Cape Coral, Florida and Tod (wife Cheryl) of Sharon, Massachusetts; daughter Tamzin (husband Rick) of Billerica; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Bill, son Davidson (Massachusetts State Trooper, 1994), sister Helen, and brother Donald.
An entrepreneur and community leader, Joan co-founded the Girls Locker Room in Lexington and later ran the Lexington Visitor's Center. She served as a Girl Scout leader, Den Mother, volunteered with the Hayden Synchronized Skating Teams, and with her husband as co-president of the Harrington School PTA. Her remarkable strength showed in her victories over multiple cancers and her resilience through profound losses. Even in her final months, her love shone through in moments of clarity.
