Obituary of Barbara George

Barbara George of Billerica MA passed away peacefully on Friday January 24th. Barbara was born on September 7, 1934, to the late Arthur and Gladys Barnard of Billerica MA. She was married to her high school sweetheart, the late Richard “Dick” George, for 66 years.

Barbara was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She is survived by her four children. Donna Stevens and her husband Phil, Dale George, Dana George and his wife Lisa, all from Billerica and Allison Hardy and her husband Tom of Pembroke NH, along with seven grandchildren (Angela and her husband Dan Frediani, Joel and his wife Danielle, Nick and his wife Rachel, Rachel and her husband Lucas, Josh, Sarah and Matt) and six great grandchildren (Tyler, Zachary, Olivia, Lillian, Vivian and Dana).

Barbara grew up in Billerica on Kitchener Farm. After graduating from Howe High School, she went to nursing school. Barbara worked at Lowell General Hospital and was the town nurse in Billerica for 26 years. Being a kind and caring person, she was a wonderful nurse.

In the early 1970’s Barbara started the Figure Skating program in Billerica. She spent many Saturdays at the rink teaching kids how to skate. She was a devoted Christian and was a lifelong member at the First Congregational Church in Billerica. She loved her church activities and her church family. She loved socializing with her network of friends. Barbara lived for her family and was always very active in the kids, grandkids and great grandkids activities (hockey, basketball, baseball, dance recitals and plays). She was always there to support them.

After retiring, she and Dick built a home on Lexington Rd next to Kitchener Farm where she grew up. She spent 33 wonderful years there gardening, walking, socializing with neighbors and enjoying her family.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday January 31, 2025, from 4PM to 7 PM at Burns Funeral Home, 354 Boston Rd (Rt3A) Billerica MA. A celebration of life service will be held at the First Congregational Church, 18 Andover Rd. Billerica MA on Saturday February 1, 2025 at 10AM, followed by a graveside service at North Cemetery, Salem Rd. Billerica MA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the First Congregational Church (construction project) Billerica MA.
