Obituary of George E. Sargent
George E. "Sarge" Sargent, age 87, died Sunday, November 7, 2010 at his home in Methuen. He was the beloved husband of the late Alice F. (Russell) Sargent. He was born in Somerville, May 29, 1923, son of the late Robert and Bertha (Deland) Sargent. A highly decorated WWII Army Veteran, Mr. Sargent participated in battles in Naples, Rome, Southern France, and Rhineland. He was a recipient of two Purple Hearts with an Oakleaf Cluster and 4 Bronze Service Stars. After the service he worked for General Electric in Wilmington as a machinist and later worked for Flagship Cleaning Services, also in Wilmington. He was a life member of V.F.W. and D.A.V. in Billerica. He was a longtime friend of Bill W. He is survived by his two daughters, Alice Szczepkowski of Windham, NH and Virginia Vander Meade of FL, his two sons, Thomas Sargent of FL and Joseph Sargent of Woburn. He also leaves his 12 loving grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He was also the father of the late George and Robert Sargent and the brother of the late Robert Sargent.
