Obituary of Alfred L. Clarke
Alfred L."Skip" Clarke, Jr., age 68, died Sunday, March 20, 2011 at the Golden Living Center in West Newton. He was the beloved husband of Bessiemae (White) Clarke, with whom he celebrated 44 years of marriage in November. Born in Cambridge, November 7, 1942, he was the son of the late Alfred and Shirley (Holmes) Clarke. A Senior Chief Petty Officer, Skip retired from the United States Navy in 1981 after 22 years of service. His last duty assignment was with the Naval Intelligence Support Center in Washington, DC. He later worked for BTI in Billerica for 15 years as a mechanical assembler. Skip enjoyed working with his hands, especially woodworking. He was a supporter and contributor to His Majesty's 10th Regiment of Foot of which his son, Shane, was a member. He also loved gardening, music, history, hobby arts, and enjoyed traveling to Maine. Besides his wife he is survived by two sons, Scott A. Clarke of Billerica and Shane L. Clarke of Concord; his sister, Kathleen White and her husband William of Chelmsford; his brother-in-law, Samuel White of Dracut, and his nephew, Jeff White and his wife Caroline of Tyngsboro. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
