Obituary of Mary M. Hir
Mary M. (McGrath) Hir, age 70, died, Monday, April 4, 2011, with her family by her side at Victoria Haven Nursing Facility in Norwood after waging a courageous ten year battle with Parkinson's Disease. She was born in Roxbury, March 28, 1941, the eldest child of Francis and Katherine McGrath. Mary was graduated from Mission High School in 1958 and worked as a legal secretary at several Boston area companies. She was the devoted wife of 48 years of Laszlo A. Hir, and a dedicated homemaker, raising her five children in Billerica. Her interests included family, gardening, sewing, and reading. She devoted much time and energy as a caregiver to family members, including her mother and father, until they passed away. Besides her husband, she is survived by her three daughters and sons-in-law; Maria and Michael Cronan of North Dighton, Lauren and James Bowe of Nashua, NH, and Catherine and Paul Stanton of Medfield, her two sons and daughters-in-law; Joseph and Manuela Hir of Sandwich and Stephen and Lisa Hir of Hudson, NH. She also leaves her 14 grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Francis and Paul McGrath.
