Obituary of George Norman Silva
George Norman Silva, age 78, of Brentham Road, Billerica, died on Sunday, May 8, 2011, after a long illness. He was the loving husband of Nancy A. (Mallard) Silva for 58 years.
He was born in Billerica on August 27, 1932, the son of the late George N. and Louise (Poirier) Silva. A lifelong resident of Billerica, he graduated from Howe High School.
Mr. Silva was Korean War Veteran who served in the US Army from 1952-1955. He retired in 1990 from Digital Equipment Corporation as a plant engineer after 27 years of employment. Previously he had been employed at Raytheon Corporation. He was also a self employed carpenter.
He was a longtime member of the North Billerica Baptist Church, a member of the American Institute of Plant Engineers, a life member of the Westford Sportsman Club, and a member of Ducks Unlimited. In 1984 he was awarded the Plant Engineer of the Year Award by the state AIPE. George enjoyed many outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, and camping with his family and friends.
Besides his wife he is survived by his two sons, Norman G. Silva and his wife Jean of Westford, and Stephen L. Silva and his wife Joanne of Billerica; his loving grandchildren, Jennifer L. Santy and her husband Matthew of Billerica, Stephen L. Silva, Jr. and his wife Karissa of Billerica, Robert S. Silva and his wife Shannon of Milford, NH, and Elizabeth Silva of Westford. He also leaves his great granddaughter, Addyson "happy feet" Santy of Billerica.
