Obituary of Elsie W. Cann

Elsie W. Cann, age 96, passed away, peacefully, Wednesday, December 21, 2011, at the home of her daughter, Janice Geaumont, in Dayton, Maine. She was the beloved wife of the late Harry F. Cann, who died in 2002. Born in Lowell, January 22, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Anna (Johannsen) Williams. Elsie, who graduated from Newton Wellsley Hospital in 1938 as a registered nurse, soon after met and married Harry F. Cann in Watertown, MA. A longtime Billerica resident, Elsie and her husband raised their four children there. Mrs. Cann led a full and active life; after retiring from nursing, she became an avid golfer and belonged to senior golf leagues. She also enjoyed bowling and traveling. She was a longtime active member of St. Elizabeth's Guild at St. Anne's Episcopal Church in North Billerica. She also volunteered her time at the Church Thrift Shop. Most important of all to Elsie was her family. She cherished large family gatherings and visits from her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great- great grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter, Janice Geaumont of Dayton, ME, her sons, Richard Cann and his wife Joann of Orange Port, FL, and Allen Cann and his companion Carol Calatoni of Haverhill, MA, her sisters, Edith Burger of Concord, MA and Doris Williams of Kingston, NH, her 14 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, and 7 great great grandchildren.
