Obituary of Michael J. Ferro

Michael J. Ferro, age 69, died at his home in Billerica, Sunday, April 22, 2012 surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Carole (Sawyers) Ferro. He was born in Malden, January 29, 1943, the son of the late Joseph and Ida (Carbone) Ferro. An only child, Michael had a large extended family in South Boston. He graduated from Everett High School in 1961. A talented baseball player, Michael passed on an opportunity to try out for the Boston Red Sox and instead enlisted with the United States Air Force during the Cuban Missile Crisis. After his time in the military, Mr. Ferro was employed as a driver and dispatcher for Greater Lynn Social Services, which provides transportation services for people with disabilities. Always involved in family activities, Michael volunteered and served as an assistant coach in Billerica Youth Basketball while all 3 children played and as an assistant coach with Billerica Little League while his son, James, played. He was a member of the North Billerica Baptist Church and the Billerica Lodge of Elk's #2071. He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed going to Red Sox and Celtics games and he loved his Richardson's ice cream and Richie's slush. Besides his wife, he is survived by his children, James Ferro and Kimberly Ferro, both of Billerica, and Heather Ferro and her partner Scott Dicks of Austell, GA, and his step grandson Tyler Dicks of Austell, GA.
