Obituary of Edward J. Raposo

Edward J. Raposo, Sr., age 84, died Saturday, July 7, 2012, at the Life Care Center of Merrimack Valley in Billerica. Born in Cambridge, August 19, 1927, he was the son of the late Manuel and Mary (Silva) Raposo. Mr. Raposo first enlisted in the United States Navy and received a certificate with the Bureau of Aeronautics. He then re-enlisted in the United States Army during WWII. For many years he worked as a truck driver and a diesel mechanic prior to his retirement. Edward, affectionately known as "Grampy Ed" to all who knew him, loved his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren with all his heart. Family gatherings were his favorite times. Grampy Ed, a proud veteran of the Army and a lover of nature, was always seeking peace and harmony. Photography was a favorite pastime of his, and he was very good at it. Outdoor activities of all kinds kept him happy, especially camping and fishing. He always had his cooler packed and fishing pole ready to go. He is survived by his children, Carol Woods and her husband George of Billerica, Edward J. Raposo, Jr. and his wife Diane of Wakefield, Margaret "Maggie" Dobie and her husband Ken of Lancaster, and Susan "Susie" Shipka of Burlington; his loving grandchildren, Peter Podlejski and his wife Sonia of Hopedale, MA, Rachel Imlach and her husband Scott of Billerica, George Woods III and his wife Kate of Savannah, GA, Marlena Woods of Billerica, Emily and Matthew Raposo of Wakefield, Ashley Huelsmann and her husband Mark of Manchester, NH, Angela Qualls and her husband Michael of San Diego, CA, and Michael, Michelle, and Madison Shipka, all of Burlington; his great grandchildren, Edward J. M. Podlejski, Molly, Clara, and Anna Woods, and Maisie Jane Woods; his nieces, Mary Bates and her husband Harry of Carver and Maureen Therrien; his grandniece and nephew, Tara Sweezey of Pembroke and Adam Therrien, his wife Taeko, and their son Akio of Troy, OH. Edward also leaves his dear friends, Irena Sienko Maguire and her husband Steven of Billerica. He was also the beloved father of the late Manuel J. Raposo and the brother of the late Louise Miller.
