John F. Riel, age 67, died, unexpectedly, Sunday, March 31, 2013, at Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington. He was the beloved husband of Diane (Phillips) Casey Riel. Born May 24, 1945, he was the son of the late Frederick C. and Ellen A. (Milkey) Riel. John, who was a resident of Billerica for most of his life, was the Director of Emergency Management in Billerica for 30 years and a custodian at the town hall for 10 years. Besides his wife, he is survived by Timothy J. Casey and his wife, Maria, of Pepperell, Stephen R. Casey of Lowell, Michael J. Casey and his wife, Melissa, of Hudson, NH, and Robert M. Casey of Manchester, NH. He also leaves his grandchildren, Thomas Casey and his wife, Kim, of Pepperell, Timothy J. Casey, Jr., of Rockville, MD, Brian Casey of Ayer, Alex Niconchek of Billerica, Matthew Casey of Billerica, Alex Christie , Alllyson Casey, and Dylan Casey, all of Hudson, NH, and Sean Nikolsky of Weymouth, and his great-grandson, Kellen T. Casey of Pepperell and his sister, Charlene Locker of NC. He was also the father of the late John F. Riel, Jr., and the brother of the late Lauraine M. Riel.
