We were so sad to have learned about the departure of Annamaria. She was Ezra's colleague and a friend of both of us as well as of Israel.
Annamaria was the first scientist to discover the intriguing regulation system of phosphage metabolism in bacteria. Her work inspired many other scientists over the world to become interested in her discovery and, along with her, work out the details of its secrets. This stimulated Annamaria to organize the two excellent international PHO meetings in the 80's and 90's of the previous century, one in Woods Hole and one in Concarneux, France. It was a pleasure for me to help her organizing these meetings and publish the two PHO books that have emerged from them.
We shall never forget Annamaria’s affection, informality and friendship. We loved her visits with us and were always welcome guests in her cozy and warm house in Longwood Ave. We do hope that her departure was in peace and without pain.
