Obituary of Juliette M. Lanthier

Juliette Lanthier, 50 year resident of Billerica, died suddenly and peacefully at her home on Monday, October 14, 2013 at the age of 94. Born in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg in 1919, experiencing and serving in World War II, were she later met her future husband, Bernard Lanthier, born in Montreal Canada, a soldier in the US Army, stationed in Luxembourg. They were married after World War II ended in 1945 and she arrived in New York City, Ellis Island, as one of 1,500 war brides. They first resided in Fitchburg and then in Waltham where she and her husband raised a family of 5 children. In addition to raising her family, Mrs. Lanthier was also employed as a Foreign language teacher at Waltham High School until 1966 when she and her family moved to Billerica. Mrs. Lanthier also taught at the Billerica Memorial High School and also at Shawsheen Valley Technical High School for many years as a substitute teacher. Mrs. Lanthier was also active, until her death with the Billerica Senior Center, Knitting Club. Mrs. Lanthier knitted hundreds of hats, mittens and scarves for Billerica students. Mrs. Lanthier also knitted countless blankets, hats, booties and sweaters for newborns at Emerson Hospital. Mrs. Lanthier was widowed in 1980, when her husband of 35 years, passed away suddenly of a heart attack at the age of 60. Mrs. Lanthier also lost one of her sons, Raymond Lanthier in 1987 at the age of 35. She is survived by her daughter, Lauray Lanthier of Billerica, her sons, Bernard Lanthier of Natick, Joseph Lanthier of Reading, and George Lanthier of Worcester, and also 3 grandchildren. Funeral arrangements will be conducted by the Burns Funeral Home of Billerica and are private at the request of Mrs. Lanthier. After funeral services, her remains will be cremated.
