Obituary of Richard D. Swift
Richard D. Swift Sr., age 90, passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at home,
surrounded by his loving family following a lengthy illness. He was the beloved husband of the late Bertha W. (Simmons) Swift to whom he was married 44 years.
He was born in Readfield, ME on October 25, 1923, a son of the late
Maurice and Florence Swift. Richard resided in North Billerica for the past 64 years. A graduate of the Mass College of Pharmacy, he served in the United States Navy during WWII as a Pharmacist Mate, First Class.
Prior to his retirement he worked at Roger’s Pharmacy in Waltham,
McCormack’s Drugstore in Billerica, Swan Drugs in Tewksbury, and the Pharmacy at Billerica Medical Center in North Billerica.
Richard was a member of Thomas Talbot Lodge of Masons in Billerica, a life member of the Solomon VFW Post #8819 in North Billerica, and a former member
of the Billerica Lodge of ELKS # 2071.
He is survived by his three sons, Steven D. Swift, David J. Swift and his wife, Patti, and Richard D. Swift Jr., all of North Billerica; his daughter in-law, Zofia Swift of Billerica; eight grand children, Kristen, Christopher and his wife, Katie, Sara, Donny and his wife, Summer, Jeffrey and his wife, Lindsay, Sharon Hrabe, Susan Grubis, and Sandy Allen. He also leaves his four great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was also the father of the late Nancy (Hrabe) Eunson.
