Obituary of Laura Aylward
Laura (Betty) Aylward, 89, died August 15, 2014 at Sunny Acres Nursing Home in Chelmsford MA. She was the wife of the late Brantford Aylward, Sr.
Mrs. Aylward had been a resident of Billerica MA since 1954, most recently Brightview Concord River. Born in Waterville, ME on February 28, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Frances I. and Walter Lint of ME; sister of Helen Goodhue and late brother Harold. She spent her childhood years in Waterville and Sidney ME.
During World War II, Mrs. Aylward worked as a teletype operator for the War Department in Washington, DC.
While raising her children, Mrs. Aylward performed seasonal production work for her husband’s F.W. Woolworth stores. During the holidays, she could be found leaning over a bench decorating Valentine’s Day and Easter chocolate, assembling Easter baskets, creating gift and wreath bows, decorating wreaths, or making stocking stuffers.
Mrs. Aylward also worked as a floral designer for the W.T. Grant Co., and as a floral designer and store manager for DeCrosta Florists and Finally Flowers. She also enjoyed teaching evening floral design classes for the Billerica Adult Education Program. Her signature hair style helped identify her around town as the “Flower Lady.”
Mrs. Aylward will be missed by her six children. She is survived by three sons and two daughters-in law, Brantford, Jr. and wife Ruth of North Billerica MA, Douglas and wife Leslie, Christian of Woburn MA; three daughters and sons-in-law, Linda Couch and husband Vito of North Billerica MA, Deborah Juth and husband Robert of Hillsboro, OR, and Janet Clark and husband William of Matawan NJ. She also leaves 12 grandchildren, Brantford Aylward III and wife Cindy of Nashua NH, David Aylward and wife Christine of Bradford MA, Adam Aylward and wife Teri-Ann of Lowell MA, Joseph Aylward of North Billerica MA, Nicholas Aylward and fiancé Samantha Perrin of North Andover MA; Tayler Aylward of Woburn MA; Zeb Couch of South Boston MA; Kaitlyn, Rachel and Emma Juth of Eugene OR; and Colin and Brendan Clark of Matawan NJ--and last, but not least, one great granddaughter, Emily Alaura Aylward of Nashua NH.
