Obituary of Daniel John Baker
Daniel John Baker, 57, died, surrounded by his family, September 23, 2014. He is survived by his wife and best friend Susan Scalise Baker. Born in Chelsea, December 14, 1956, he was the son of Charles L and Grace K Baker of Englewood, FL. A graduate of Burlington High School and UMASS Amherst, Dan had a 32 year career at MIT Lincoln Laboratory in Lexington, MA. Dan gave his heart and soul to the Billerica Youth Soccer (BYSA) league for over 20 years serving in every capacity from equipment manager, referee, field coordinator, and BYSA president. He also served as a board member and commissioner of the commissioner’s cup for the Middlesex Soccer league. In May, 2014, Dan was honored as the first inductee to the BYSA Hall of Fame. In his acceptance speech Dan said that the best part was working with great people that had the same agenda, to make things better for the kids. Dan was the consumer advocate for the Billerica Farmers Market and was an avid fan of the NE Revolution. With family and friends, he loved to experience the feel good music in his soul which made his body rock and roll. His spirit will live on through all the lives he touched. Besides his wife and parents, Dan is survived by his children, Kevin Baker of Billerica and Christine Baker of Beverly. He was the brother/brother-in-law of Chuck Baker and Terri Wester of Nutley, NJ, Scott Baker of San Antonio, TX, Brian and Cindy Baker of Dracut, Jacqueline Baker and Ken Jeffries of Groton, MA, Kathleen Baker of Lowell, MA, Stephen and Joanne Baker of Haverhill, MA, Steven Scalise and Randy Thomas of San Diego, CA, Robert and Diane Scalise of Sturbridge, MA and the late Debi Dearing and Chuck Scalise. In addition to being a devoted husband, father, son and brother, Dan was a loving uncle, cousin, coach and friend to many.
