Obituary of Grant H. Whiteway

Grant H. Whiteway Sr., 82, a lifelong resident of Billerica, passed away peacefully at home, Wednesday, May 13, 2015, surrounded by his family and close friends. Son of the late Sterling David and late Sarah Evelyn (Derby) Whiteway. Brother of the late Robert Whiteway and the late Sterling David Whiteway. Grant is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Rose Ann (Hession). His loved ones include his 5 children: Evelyn A. Whiteway, Elizabeth and husband Terrence Patriquin, Virginia and husband Jim Ford, Grant Jr. and wife Linda Whiteway, and James H. Whiteway. His grandchildren Jenifr Patriquin, TJ Patriquin, Ben Patriquin and wife Jaclyn, Sarah McClellan and husband Adam, Jamie-Lee(Whiteway)Batista and husband Dustin, Brittany (Whiteway) Roberts and husband Jon, Grant H Whiteway III, Lindsay Rose Whiteway, Timothy Parker, Meghan Ford, Kelly Ford, Spencer D Whiteway, and Cassidy M Whiteway. His 6 great grandchildren include: Kaley Patriquin, Rian Callahan, Colin Newhall, Blake Roberts, Wyatt Patriquin, and Owen McClellan. Brothers and Sisters in law include: Mary Lou and Carl Hanson, the late Helen and late Edward Tedesco, James Hession and the late Martha Hession. He was treasured and loved by many dear lifelong friends, Nieces and Nephews. Born November 15, 1932, Grant graduated Howe H.S. in 1951, and Northeastern University in 1962. He served in the United States Air Force 1951-55, and was a veteran of the Korean War. Grant will be especially remembered for his many accomplishments and unselfish dedication to his home town of Billerica. He is an Honorary Life member of the Billerica Lodge of Elks 2071 and of the Burlington Simonds Lodge Masons, both for over 50 years. He was an Eastern Star member, and a lifetime member the VFW. He was a lifetime member, past President, and current treasurer of the Howe High/BMHS Alumni Association. Grant was also treasurer and board member of Billerica Youth Lacrosse, which lead up to him winning the “Steve Connolly Award” from BYLA. Grant also volunteered as the Videographer for the Billerica High School Lacrosse team where he produced and edited videos of game film. Grant was a recipient of the “Man of the Year” award presented by the Billerica Boys and Girls Club in 2013. Grant was an avid runner, and finished 17 marathons, including the 99th and 100th anniversaries of the Boston Marathon. Also, Grant finished first for his age bracket in the 1994 Casco Bay Marathon. Grant was a Billerica town meeting member, as well as on the committees for the Parker School building, Cabot Land re-use, and for the Billerica turf field. He volunteered his time coaching for Billerica Pop Warner, Jr. League Packers, and Billerica town basketball Church league.
