McCarthy of Cambridge, June 22, 2015, James F. McCarthy, age,88. Son of the late Dennis F. and Mary O. (Finn) McCarthy. Brother of Attorney Edward D. McCarthy of Lexington and the late Alice M. Ryan and Frank McCarthy. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Jim was a veteran of WWII having been drafted while in his senior year at Cambridge High and Latin School as he turned 18 years of age. He was always proud of the fact that the High School arranged a special graduation at Harvard when he and others returned from the War. He served in the Philippines and was on his way to Japan when the war ended. He served with the Army of Occupation in Japan. On returning he attended Bryant and Stratton Business School and was an examiner for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Division of Insurance for many years. As a young man he also worked as a bat boy and club house attendant for the Boston Red Sox and would regale us all with stories of Ted Williams, Joe DiMaggio and even Babe Ruth, along with many others. Funeral service will be held in the John C. Burns & Sons Funeral Home, 305 Broadway, Cambridge, Monday, June 29, from 9:00 ~ 10:00 AM.
