Obituary of Marjorie Louise Fudge
Marjorie “Marge” Fudge
Wife, Mother, grandmother, great-grandmother
Marjorie Louise (Stares) Fudge (87) passed away peacefully on January 29, 2018 at Manatee Memorial Hospital in Bradenton, Florida, surrounded by her loving family. A longtime resident of Billerica, MA, Marge and her husband Don, started spending winters in Florida 20 years ago, eventually locating in Parrish. Their home and friends at Veranda Springs were such a source of joy for them that as much as she was a true New Englander, she so looked forward to her time there. She was born in Somerville MA and with the exception of her Florida winters, spent her entire life in the greater Boston area. A devoted member of St. Anne’s Episcopal Church in North Billerica, she was a member of the choir for many years. Family and faith were the cornerstones of her life.
Marge was a devoted fan of both the Boston Red Sox and the Boston Bruins and while Bruin great Bobby Orr will forever be the greatest that ever played the game, watching the Red Sox break “the curse” in 2004 was a dream come true. A three-time cancer survivor, she said she owed her resilience to being of “hearty Newfie stock”. Her parents, Gerald and Isabelle (Fifield) Stares emigrated from Newfoundland and Marge made many visits back to her roots. Originally a legal secretary, she and Don started a successful travel agency in the ‘70’s that lasted for years and enabled her to travel the world.
She was preceded in death by her beloved sister Dorothy (Dot) Richard in 2016 and her sister Gwendolyn in 1927.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years Donald W. Fudge and her 3 sons; Donald G. (Holly) Fudge of Redmond, WA, Gary (Lisa) Fudge of Billerica, MA, and Gregg (Amber) Fudge of Pittsfield, NH, 5 grandchildren; Steven (Danielle) Fudge of Billerica, MA, Katie (Paul) Pimental of Tewksbury, MA, Eric (Julianne) Fudge of Tampa, FL, Ian (Natalie) Fudge of Seattle, WA and Evan (Caroline) Fudge of Snohomish, WA and 3 great grandsons; Landon and Colton Pimental and Jayson Fudge.
Visitation at Burns Funeral Home, Boston Rd., Billerica, MA from 4-8pm on Friday, February 23rd. Services at St. Annes Episcopal Church, Treble Cove Rd., N. Billerica, MA, at 10am on February 24th followed by internment at Fox Hill Cemetery, Billerica, MA.
