Obituary of Gladys Leavitt
Gladys (James) Leavitt, 88, longtime resident of Billerica, MA died peacefully at the Apostolic Christian Home in Rittman, OH on September 10, 2018. She was born in Somerville, Massachusetts on March 24, 1930, the youngest daughter of the late Herbert and Eunice (Carter) James and wife of the late Raymond L. Leavitt, Sr. who died in 2007.
Gladys grew up in Somerville, Massachusetts and graduated from Somerville High School in 1947. She and Ray were married in 1948 and celebrated 58 years of marriage. Gladys was a skilled secretary and held a variety of positions over the years, working for Farm Family Insurance and the Town of Billerica, eventually retiring from Billerica in 2001.
Gladys enjoyed genealogy, sewing, knitting and cake decorating, making innumerable costumes, outfits, sweaters, quilts and cakes for all assorted occasions & celebrations.
Gladys embraced her family history becoming a proud member of the DAR and the Mayflower Society.
Gladys is survived by her 3 sons Raymond Jr. and his wife Lorraine, Philip and his wife Kathleen, and Thomas, 4 grandchildren Nicholas, Scott and his wife Stephanie, Adam, and Ellen, and 5 great grandchildren Riley, Anya, Scott, Savana and Saige. She is survived by her beloved sister, Alice Dow and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her siblings Herbert James, Percy James, Thornton James, Ethel Hunter and Madeline Pestana.
