Obituary of Lawrence Frank Smith

On Sunday evening, September 16th, Larry Smith left his earthly home and was carried up to his eternal dwelling place in Heaven. Even during his 7 year battle with cancer, he never lost his faith in God, nor was his sweet disposition ever diminished. Larry was born in Woburn MA on January 22, 1941 to Georgianna (Johnson) Smith and Philip Smith. He attended schools in Woburn and Boston before joining the US Army Reserves. Returning from his military duty, he often joined a bunch of friends who hung out at the A&P parking lot in Woburn, on Sunday afternoons. A group of girls from Winchester joined them and it was on one of these group excursions that he met his soul mate and future wife Sybil Smith. They dated for a year and married in the spring of 1960. Sybil and Larry were blessed with two children before moving to Billerica in 1967. Larry became a carpenter and worked hard improving and enlarging their small home. He started his own construction business and built many homes and apartments buildings in MA and NH. When the housing industry took a turn downward, he joined the staff at Brickstone Properties in Andover and remained there until his retirement in 2006. Larry was a man of simple pleasures. He loved his wife of 58 years, Sybil, his family, Saturday morning breakfasts with his siblings, lemon meringue pie, Snickers bars, puttering around in his garage, the beach, traveling, his van and his Camaro, his four legged friends and worshiping at Grace Chapel. In addition to his wife, Larry will be missed by his son, Larry Jr and his wife Linda of Litchfield NH, and their children, Christine Smith, Sonya McTeague, Eric Smith and Samantha Smith and his daughter’s children Renee Boyden, Benjamin Boyden and Faith Boyden of Billerica. He leaves a brother George and his wife Diana of NH and sisters Phyllis Pereira of Woburn and Judith Grondin and her husband Leo of Medford. Teresa Smith of Woburn and Lynne Hartwell of Gloucester were his sisters-in-law. He was predeceased by his daughter Cynthia Quattrociocchi and his brothers Richard, Roland and Norman. He will also be missed by Marshmallow, Sassy and especially Amy. A memorial Service will be held at Grace Chapel in Lexington on Friday October 19th at 11 o’clock.
