Obituary of Joan E. Holohan

Joan E. (Gillis) Holohan, age 83, died Friday, January 13, 2023, at Brightview Senior Living in Billerica.  Born in Leominster, MA, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Rose (Bean) Gillis. She was the beloved wife of the late Thomas H. Holohan; devoted mother of Michael Holohan of Florida, Ryan Holohan of Boston, and Mark Holohan of Billerica; sister of Susan Kruman of Pittsburgh, Robert Gillis of Newburyport, MA, Marcia Menard of TN and the late Donald, William, and Nancy Gillis; and loving grandmother of Alexis and Jordyn Holohan and Jack and Bo Holohan.  While working at the Locke Middle School in Billerica, she provided instruction and support to special education students. Joan, a communicant at St. Theresa Parish in Billerica, volunteered in the Religious Education Program in various roles including 2^nd Grade coordinator, a position that supported children preparing to receive First Holy Communion as well as the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Joan loved to bake and was known for making her delicious chocolate chip cookies for the neighborhood children. She also enjoyed quilting. Visiting hours will be held in the Burns Funeral Home, 354 Boston Rd., (Rt. 3A), Billerica, Thursday, January 19,from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Funeral from the Burns Funeral Home will be held on Friday January 20, at 9:00 am followed by a Mass of Christian burial in St. Matthew the Evangelist Parish at St. Theresa’s Church, 466 Boston Road, Billerica at 10:00am.
