Ah Janet, what has happened to our old Cambridge? I just heard about your passing. How many memories go with you. More than fifty years have passed since we met in the midst of struggle to defend our city and our neighborhoods. Always looked forward to seeing and speaking with you. Yours in grateful memory for as long as I live and for as long as our kids live

My sincere condolences to all the Roses. My lifelong friends from Lopez Ave to Pine Street and beyond. Grandma Betty, Jan and all the boys showed me and my family genuine kindness when we arrived from the Azores in 1958. I will always have a place in my heart for you guys.

Rick, Randy, Robert, Cheri and Marquis:
It was my greatest honor to be introduced to Janet by my late husband, Bill Wood, back in 1977. She was his very best friend and in turn became my best friend. She was a formidable woman of great compassion and caring for all and especially for those with marginalized voices. Her great strength and resilience was admirable and always with a positive viewpoint. I loved to hear her and my husband's "war" stories about their time at Cambridge Model Cities and in turn had the privilege of meeting the numerous strong community women that stood with her. You could not walk down a Cambridge Street with Janet without being stopped by the many people who adored her.
I will miss our long phone conversations over the years.
I send you all my deepest condolences. But be consoled in your memories of your mother's well lived life and the path she paved forward for you as you are all wonderful people who will carry that legacy on within your hearts.

What an amazing woman and amazing life. Her son -Randy - is a very good friend and now I can understand why Randy is such an excellent man and father. My condolences and prayers are to her entire family. It’s such a difficult thing to lose a family member but to lose your mom - life is forever changed. She certainly left her legacy of kindness and advocacy with her son Randy. Again I am so sorry for your loss but what a wonderful life to experience such a beautiful person.

I am so sorry to her about your Mom. She was a second mother to us all and she loved the neighborhood kids!. I often talk fondly of my time working at McDonald's under your mother's wing. She taught me how to run Children's Birthday parties and I was so excited to take on such an important role. I also got to serve as the Easter Bunny for McDonalds for several years and your mom and I worked together taking pictures with the kids that came in. It was my first real job and it taught me so much. She was a fierce advocate for the neighborhood, and the city, and her devotion and passion benefitted so many who could not advocate for themselves. Cambridge is a better place because of her. She and my mother, Pat McCarthy, were inseparable and they were always taking on some cause through their work with Model Cities, the neighborhood clinic, elder services or working on some political campaign. My grandmother, Margaret Leeman, always considered her a second daughter and was so proud of her! My grandmother always bragged about your mothers' many achievements and what a strong person she was. I am confident that they are all overjoyed to be reunited once again and are having spirited discussions! She lives on in all of us and our warm memories of her. My love and prayers go out to you and your family. Love, Mary Ann McCarthy (Gibbons)

I worked with Janet at McDonalds, she was always so kind. She’s also the only person who could get me into that Hamburglar costume when I came home for a visit with my family after I quit working there! lol. She was absolutely the best human being I have ever known. Condolences to her family, I will keep her and you in my prayers.

I got to know many of Janet's talents when she worked with my Dad on Model Cities and housing issues. Her intelligence was surpassed only by her devotion to her family and to her neighborhood. She was much respected for her honesty.

I knew Ms. Rose when I was 17-18 and working at McDonald’s in Central Square. Janet was McDonald’s Community Liaison. She was a whirlwind, often running to a meeting, but she always took the time to smile and say a friendly or encouraging word, even to a kid burger-flipper. She made such an impression on me that I often think fondly of Ms. Rose, some 50 years later. My condolences to the Rose family.

Janet Rose was an activist who cared about the people of Cambridge and fought for those who could not fight for themselves. For many of us our first job was at McDonalds and most of us ended up graduation from college. She opened up doors for youth in her community. She was a second Mom and Auntie to many of us in the community. She was one of the three musketeers along with my mother Jacqueline Carroll and Pat McCarthy. They were sisters and now reunited. Love you Janet! Rest in power.

Janet Rose was a generational human being. It seems like I knew her all my life, as I grew up playing with her children in elementary school, becoming mischievous with them in high school and experiencing college and adulting with them. She was a force in our community who was there to be a voice for the voiceless. Her legacy is one of commitment to family, friends and community. She touched countless live and is responsible for much of the good that has come to those of us from the City of Cambridge. Her spirit lives on...in us all!

My deepest condolences to the Rose family. I only spent a little while with her and quickly realized what an amazing woman she was. I enjoyed her stories about working with my Grandfather and I immediately felt like I had known her forever. She was a hard working and accomplished woman who raised a beautiful family of which she was so proud.
God bless her and may she rest in peace.
